A thermal hot spring surrounded by miles of open tundra and taiga. Located on a mostly barren island, the hot springs are known for their healing and magical waters. Warm geysers shoot out from cracks in the ice and rocky pools of warm water can be found here.
Hot water was lapping up the bottom side of her legs that were still caught inside the warm water. The other half lay sprawled on dry land, caughing up liquids as she started to rouse. Her body looked disheveled and every hair out of place.; a very messy Maureen.
As her eyes open everything is disoriented. Swaying and moving! Her entire head, spinning, so she lays it back down with a groan, tightly fashioning her eyes shut. Where did she come from? He mind was so blank.
The female wolf sat up and gave her scuffled coat a lap, placing on part of her fur back to where it belongs. Maureen spends a long time that morning groomong hateful- until she remembers her name- at least, the first half!
It was Maureen! She started to bounce with happiness but soon quit when her stomach rolled in unease.
Food. She needed to find some. With that thought the lass stood and shook herself, scenting the ait as she moved onward: hoping for prey-- or a friendly face.

Her pinchers ground uncomfortably against his as they grappled, chitinous barbs locking them together as they gnashed and pushed and snarled between each others' grasps. She heaved his snapping jaws away from her muzzle with a twist of her head, neck straining as her heavy paws slid backwards against the slick, wet grass. Her opponent's own claws dug into the churned soil for purchase, forcing himself forward as he snarled and spit against her hold. She was larger, yes, but he was vindictive, and the pelting rain was angled towards his backside where unlike her, he didn't have to squint and snort to keep the icy water from getting into his eyes and nostrils.
Asshole, Ida snarled to herself, as if she hadn't been the one to trail him through the grasslands and pounce only when he stood battered and bloody atop a well-earned elk carcass. It had been her own damn fault this was happening, and the sky breaking from an unpleasant drizzle into an autumn downpour was just the cherry on top.
He surged forwards then, snapping blocky fangs inches from her nose as she twisted her aching neck and forced his pincers up and away where his jaws were forced to follow. She was under him now, gnashing her own fangs furiously just short of his throat as her forepaws kicked off the earth and forced their heads even higher. He was forced to follow her lead, rearing onto his own hindlegs and trading heavy blows between them with now freed paws. Ida had no idea how long they'd been grappling like this, only that the rain somehow kept getting even heavier and goddamn, her neck hurt.
Her mistake came then, as the smaller wolf sharply angled his head to the right and dragged their pincers askew. The slick grass finally slipped between Ida's hind paws, and with a roar of panicked fury, she toppled over and dragged her opponent down with her. The earth was steep there, topped with rolling hills and sharp gullies, and the two wolves rolled and bit and clawed in a flurry of fur and chitin as they tumbled down and through the grassland as Ida's vision spun from disorientation and pain.
One moment she felt his pincers wrenched from her grasp, and then she felt jaws wrapping around her throat. She expected him to crunch, and the sensation of her windpipe collapsing just as the elk's had done, but at that moment the earth beneath them slipped and lightning split the darkness. Ida saw a flash of stone, and her vision went black as pain exploded in the back of her skull with a crack that deafened the thunder.
--
Most wolves would not describe Ida as a 'friendly face', but most wolves had never seen Ida in such a peaceful state.
She laid against the trunk of a mighty taiga tree not far from the bubbling springs, massive body slumped and head resting heavily across her broad paws. She slept, not as if knocked unconscious, but instead as if she'd curled for a quiet nap in the snow. The welts and bruises from her battle had vanished, along with the gash that should have split her skull in two. A snore rumbled out from her chest, expression surprisingly serene as autumn daylight dappled across her scarred pelt and dirtied chitin.
Maureen could find her here, laying out in the open so obviously as hot steam puffed from her nostrils and rhythmic snores split the cold, quiet air.
Maureen was trotting up when she noticed the beetle like wolf snuggled against the tree. They looked so peaceful in the blanket of snow; their breath creating small vapors in front of their nose.
Maureen was not stupid by any means however and kept three tail lengths away from the slumbering canine. From where she stood there were no obvious signs of a struggle, or fight anywhere. "Hey, you there," Maureen barks, trying to get their attention.
Silence and more slumbering. Ugh great. Maureen groaned annoyed as her eyes would search for a near-by twig- a long one at that! She didn't want to get gripped by those pitchers that the creamy colored canine possessed.
Finally the canine found a long twig, placing it firmly in her jaws she aims to prod the sleeping canine, in hopes she would wake up. Maybe they knew what this place was-- her stomach growls in protest-- maybe this stanger could help her hunt something down. Maureen slowly attempts to poke the sleeping she wolf to get her attention.

Ida often dreamed; this may have been the first in a long while in which she slept without doing so. Without such, her sleep was deep and peaceful, and likely not to end naturally any time soon. The key word being naturally.
It was only a strange pinching at her shoulder that finally roused her, and even so it was a slow going process. At first a hind leg raised sloppily to scratch at whatever biting insect she assumed had landed on her, but she hadn't even made it halfway before deciding that the insect had won and that she was too tired to chase it off. She dropped her leg and sighed sleepily, but the strange pinch only intensified, and unwillingly her mind was dragged back to consciousness as the pinching slowly became more recognizable as not a biting, but a prodding.
A low growl rumbled from her chest as she cracked a beady eye open and was immediately blinded with white, hissing then in surprise. When had she fallen asleep again? She'd been in the grasslands, and then it had been raining...
Bared fangs and clashing mandibles flashed through her mind, and on instinct she shoved herself off the snow and scrambled clumsily to her paws. She snarled, squinting her eyes against the bright landscape and swinging her head back and forth with an irritable snap of her jaws. She nearly tripped over the slush which had melted beneath her belly, thick pelt bristling as slowly her eyes adjusted to the light.
"Wherishe?!" Ida practically roared, spinning around until through her blurry vision, something dark caught her eyes. She blinked rapidly, muzzle wrinkling to bare her blocky fangs as she faced her opponent again.
Except, this wolf certainly wasn't him. Her snarl faltered, and her pale eyes widened in surprise as the sight of the stranger slowly came into focus. She stood still, shoulders squared and hackles raised, but not moving to attack. Instead, she looked around again and finally noticed that this was certainly not the grasslands.
"The hell am I?" Ida said, aggression quickly fading to be replaced with perplexment as she looked again at the new wolf.

The other she-wolf woke in a blind fury, "whereisshe" the female had snapped out, snatching Maureen's twig and snapping it in two. Clearly the beetle wolf was not aware of her own surroundings yet.
Maureen jumps back, ears tucked close to her head and her chin tucking closer to her throat for protection. "Where is who?" The glowing Maureen calmly asks, looking around with her eyes. She didn't see or sense anyone. "You just woke up too didn't you?" Two and two seemed to click together. The wolf would still be slumbering blissfully if Maureen had just left her be--but that wasn't her nature."I'm not sure where we are exactly- looks to be a warm hot-springs of sorts". The geysers around them shifted blowing up hot steam at the water, keeping the area warm and moist despite the cold winter that settles around them here.
"I woke up half way in the water. Took me so long to get tidy!" She sat down and started to fuss with a few small hairs that were out of place, trying to remain calm in front of the woman who seemed so angry in front of her. "With all this steam my fur will never stay down," she sighs and turns her full attention back to the beetle. "My name is Maureen-- do you know yours?" She asks curiously.
She didn't know much else at the time veing, and doubted this wolf knew much as well. "Perhaps we should explore the land here- patrol see what there is to eat-- I don't know about you, but I'm starving!" She announces loudly.
As her eyes adjusted to the blindingly white landscape, Ida noticed that the other wolf was much smaller than she'd initially thought. She lacked any sort of chitin and was instead glowing, unlike any she'd seen before. It put her on edge- what was she? Still, the strange girl had asked a question, and Ida was far too disoriented to snark back with anything clever,
"Scrappy lil' asshole. Fat, blue wings; Y'don't look like..." she trailed off, slowly taking her beady eyes off the stranger and again taking in her alien surroundings. "Hell, nothin looks like it was." Shit, was she dreaming? Did she die? That horrible crack echoed through her memories, and she nearly toppled over raising a paw to bat clumsily at the back of her skull. She didn't feel any blood, hell, it didn't hurt at all. Now that she was paying attention, nothing hurt; it was as if she'd never been fighting. The dog let out a disbelieving laugh, pulling her paw down and examining the scarred, albeit unharmed flesh.
For once in her life, she was at a loss for words. Her ears twitched at the sound of the other wolf's voice, though it took a moment for her to process them as she was still wrestling with the idea of what the hell had just happened. Apparently, the stranger didn't know either.
"Huh," with the other wolf now busy fussing with her fur, Ida's own bristling pelt finally settled. She didn't seem like a threat; no scars, no mandibles, and nothing besides caution in response to her own snapping. Hot water bubbled and steam billowed into the sky from the geyser closest to them, and Ida's ears prickled with embarrassment at how hard she jumped at the sudden sound.
"Yuh woke up in that!?"how was she not dead? Ida had never heard of such a place, and following the horizon line to see even more of those strange, steaming pools made unease roil in her belly. It looked like hell- a stark contrast from the peaceful snowbank she'd awoken in. She curled her lip at the sight, but the stranger's words caused her attention to snap back towards her instead.
"Course I know my name," she huffed, "it's Ida," with that, she lowered herself into a full stretch and grunted as her bones audibly popped, neck cracking as she fought the stiffness creeping through her muscles from the cold snow. Once she'd sufficiently loosened herself, she stepped around Maureen and began plodding through the snow away from the alien hot-springs. She needed to figure out what the hell was going on, but only made it a few lengths away before her ears pricked again at the sound of Maureen's barking behind her. She paused, one broad paw still raised in the air in preparation to step as she thought about her offer. She was silent for a few moments, but she thought again of that fresh elk she'd never get to sink her fangs into and snorted in acquiescence.
"Yeah. I could eat," she said, not bothering to turn around before continuing to plod forward further into the snowy taiga. It couldn't hurt to travel with the little wolf, Ida had nothing to lose besides her pride. She snuffled at the air, but all she caught was the scent of fresh snow and pine. "So...you ain't from here either?"
Maureen had been blessed with glowing from her parents; but the grey lines were only night during low light situations. "Nothing looks like me!" She boasts, standing up with her tail outright and firm. She was proud of her glow and had no problem with letting that show. " I would most definitely pray I look nothing like the thing you just described." Yuck! She was far too pretty for fat or blue wings!
The cream colored she-wolf turns her attention from Maureen to the hot-springs around them. She seemed to be taking in eveything the Hotsprings had to offer- by view at least. It seemed they were the only two here for now. Maureen follows her lead and sighs, "Nothing is going to look the same- we've been placed here in a slumber it seems like." Maureen groaned at the humidity gathering under her coat.
Maureen turns her head to where she'd pulled her hind legs out of the hot water. "Yeah, I woke up in there." She blinks staring at the waters edge. "That spring I came out of must not be as hot as the others, my legs burn some but I feel okay." She narrows her gaze at the fenake wolf who chose to lift her lip and snarl. Part of Maureen wants to share the nasty display- but that would be unlady-like, and Maureen couldn't have that! She was a proper lady through and through. "Course I know my name," the she-wolf huffed, "it's Ida,"
Ida, that was a pretty name. She stares at the wolf and makes sure the name imprints. One thing she did think was that Ida's name was a stange choice for her name. Maureen expected something more masculine almost.."it's good to meet you Ida" Maureen muses to the other.
"Yeah. I could eat," it seemed like Ida was taking the lead, so Maureen followed along with ease. It couldn't hurt anything with Ida leading the way. She was everything Maureen lacked at the time; size and strength for one.
"No I'm not from here..in fact I was in a city somewhere..studying before I got brought..here" he tail flicked gesturing at the springs around them. "What about you Ida?"
