FACTIONS

Characters can form groups, called Factions, to claim territory and support one another.

  • Characters may refer to their faction by various terms (pack, pride, clan, tribe, etc).
  • Factions may have unique traditions, culture, laws, or other requirements for their members.
  • May only claim 1 territory, but has no maximum population.
  • May create unique names for their ranks, 2 vernacular (special words), and 2 unique customs (things they do) to include on their Faction page.
  • Faction names must fit on 1 line in the post details (to fit on our site layout).

Players are responsible for keeping their Faction and rank updated on their profile.

RANK DESCRIPTIONS

Factions may create unique names for these ranks in-game. OOCly, accounts and rank pages will reflect the standard rank structure for consistency.

FACTION MECHANICS

Characters start out as a Vagrant (loner) or join a faction as an Omega.

All factions must allow OOC joining as an option.

Characters do not need to do a thread to join a faction (you can join OOCly). We encourage OOC joining so that players and Leaders can jump right into plots. Simply choose a faction that is appropriate for your character and update your character profile. It is assumed characters know the names of Leaders even if they OOCly join.

To join ICly, create a thread in a territory the faction has claimed and tag it as [JOINING] in the title. Have the character waiting or exploring near the border area. Any member can accept the character into the faction. We do not suggest joining by this method, as these threads tend to go slow and delay characters getting into plots. If the thread goes stale or doesn't have a reply after 4 days, players are encouraged to join their character OOCly.

Characters may freely leave and join a new faction at any time - within reason. A character who is blatantly unfit for a faction should not join (ie a character that openly mocks a specific deity shouldn't join a faction devoted to that deity unless they are a spy, undercover, etc; or a character that is a prisoner should try to escape their current faction before joining a new one).

Faction members can advance in rank by completing IC threads, based on IC plots & merit, or by challenging.
Players do not need approval to advance through the ranks by completing threads. Simply update your profile if you qualify.

  • Delta — complete 20 IC threads
  • Epsilon — complete 15 IC threads
  • Kappa — complete 10 IC threads
  • Sigma — complete 5 IC threads
Gamma rank can only be granted by an Alpha or Beta. This rank is given for IC merit and plots, not for posting activity. Gamma cannot be challenged for rank, unless a leader agrees to the challenge.

Leader ranks can be given by other leaders, or attained through a rank challenge.

Non-Leader characters will never be demoted for inactivity. Characters disappearing / reappearing is considered normal. We assume inactive characters have left the area or are doing something "off screen", and they do not show in the ranks. Characters can be demoted or exiled for IC reasons - such as crimes, disobedience, losing a rank challenge, or disrespect to higher ranks (especially leaders).

Characters can attempt to gain a higher rank by completing a rank challenge.

  • Anyone can challenge for higher rank if they have been in the faction for 30 days.

  • A Leader can overturn the results of any challenge (unless they are the one being challenged).

  • Unless the characters involved intend to lie about the results of a challenge, it is assumed Leaders and other members know of any resulting rank changes in the days after a challenge has occured (assuming those characters are active and residing in the faction territory). If players want to keep the results secret or intend to have their character lie about the results, they should post an obvious notice at the beginning of the challenge thread.

  • The specific nature and rules of rank challenges depend on the situation, rank being attained, and the culture or laws of the faction. A challenge can be straight-forward combat, a challenge of wits or skill, or some other feat that a Leader has deemed appropriate. Characters may choose to have another act on their behalf during a challenge. Players are encouraged to be creative.

  • Defeating a Leader does not mean the rest of the Faction will automatically accept the change in leadership. A character must defeat anyone willing to oppose them before they can successfully claim a Leader rank. Due to the difficult nature of attaining a Leader rank, a coup or battle might occur when forcefully removing a Leader from power.

  • Losing a rank challenge can result in demotion or exile, depending on the culture and laws of the faction and the unique details of the the challenge.

Leader Requirements are enforced at Staff discretion or if a player desires to attain the Leader's rank. A player who wishes to enforce the Leader Requirement must have a character who is able & willing to claim the position.

  • Leaders must keep their IC account Active and make 4 IC posts per month to retain their rank.

  • Leaders who fail the requirements can be demoted to Gamma. (Demoted Leaders typically still have honor and respect within their faction, so they are given the Gamma rank)

  • If a faction does not have an active leader, they will be given 7 OOC days to replace the leader with an active character. The next highest-ranked active character has priority to claim the position. The player of that character can OOCly claim the position (unless the player does not wish to claim the position). Anyone may challenge this succession in character.

  • Leaders should make an effort to be involved in their Faction by creating plots and socializing with other players. Leaders should make monthly discord updates for any major events, rank promotions, or events.

  • Leaders may make changes to laws, culture, and information - within reason. Updates must be based on IC reason / events, with approval from members, or with the intent to improve the Faction. Leaders should not completely change or 'overhaul' their Faction without adequate reason to do so. Updates can be requested in the #support channel of our discord.

  • Leaders should request the IC-Leader Role in our discord. If you are no longer an IC-Leader, please remove the role. Leaders may make announcements in our discord for Faction events using the announcements channel (please only tag @Announcements).

Staff will use discretion to determine how many factions can form at one time & announce if there are any Faction slots available. Applicants for a new faction must meet the below criteria and their leader must apply for the faction. Staff will review all applicants to determine which faction(s) may form. An application may be declined for any reason (if the faction too closely resembles an existing group, too many rules or confusing info for the group, doesn't have enough interest, etc).

  • Faction Information must be filled out
  • 1 adult, active Leader & 3 additional adult, active characters
    — must be played by different players
    — cannot include prisoners, slaves, or NPCs
    — registered for at least 30 days
    — must have 50 IC posts
    — 4 posts within the last month

Factions must have 1 adult, active Leader & 3 adult, active characters (not a prisoner, slave, or NPC and must be played by different players). Factions that do not meet this requirement may be disbanded at Staff discretion. A disbanded faction may re-form when formation is open and must meet the formation requirements again.

If a group of players already meet the requirements for forming a new faction, they may contact staff to discuss disbanding a faction that doesn't meet the above requirements.
