Helix, and Fawn. He gave a small dip of his head in politeness when they offered their names in return. Though his offer to carry their things was denied, Matthias didn't mind. Knowing an herbalist and healer would be useful, he thought.
But, he'd shake his head when asked if he had anything to light. Then, he'd stop suddenly, remembering the flint and steel he had in his satchel, "'I've got flint and steel, but nothing for the flame to hold onto. Any good sticks around here?" he'd look around at the debris around them. Many of the sticks were too small, too brittle to hold a flame for long.
Then he'd find one in the grass, an old pronged branch that must've fallen off just recently. *The flint and steel would float in the air close to him as he held the stick in his maw. On their own, they'd begin to strike at one another until a spark came. He'd use the dry winter grass as tinder, until the flame was strong enough to hold its own.
This is, of course, would all be done assuming one of the ladies didn't just have fire magic, which would be very convenient otherwise.
But if not, he'd make the fire, carefully put his equipment back, and hold out the torch for Fawn to grab, "This one's on the house," he'd say, releasing his hold to let the branch float in the air so he could speak clearly.
*In case anybody saw the old edit, originally I had him use his paws to light the flame but then I remembered he has telekinesis so all that was unnecessary.
