Slowly but surely, the kit's cries petered as he cleaned the gore from her dirty pelt. It was relieving at least to know that he provided some comfort, even if doing so felt foreign to him. He almost began to doze, lulled to sleep between the droning of his own thoughts and the easy, repetitive action of grooming- but a strange gurgling noise from the kit snapped him back to attention. For a moment he thought that he'd hurt her somehow, or that she was choking or suddenly ready to keel over dead, but pulling away for a better look showed that despite her strange sounds, she didn't seem to be in distress.
In fact, if he listened closely, it almost sounded as if she were attempting to purr? Could wolves not do that naturally, or was it just her? Delta tried to picture what it would be like to not purr; it certainly wasn't a common thing for him, but it was a natural part of life. It would be like being unable to cry or laugh. How awful for the poor kit.
She looked at him then with concern, and the little cat realized then that his expression must have slipped back into one of its usual worry. He offered a tired smile to her questions, wishing again that he could understand. Was she asking what he was thinking about? If he was sad?
"Soukei," Delta said again, though his voice warbled slightly from his purring. "I am okay. Go to sleep, sleep," he gestured with his muzzle towards her and then shut his eyes, tilting his head slightly as if dozing. Hopefully she understood, his last pantomiming had proved successful enough. "I...look out. I keep safe," with those words, he opened his eyes and gestured with his muzzle towards the forest's edge. In hopes that she wouldn't think he was leaving, he leaned forward and began to groom the kit again.
Hopefully he could stay awake for the night and keep lookout; Delta had never slept outside of the water before and just the thought of it made his pelt prickle nervously. It was dangerous enough to be on land, the least he could do was keep an eye on the undergrowth to make sure nothing came to hurt the kit. Still, between exploring the stream and chasing fish and comforting his new ward, he was beginning to tire. He fought back a yawn and affixed his gaze to the trees, hoping the kit would sleep peaceful and he would stay awake and alert.

DICE ROLL: Constitution
SUCCEED: Delta manages to stay awake all night and keeps them safe. He's tired though and for the next day has a -1 to skill rolls.
FAIL: He falls asleep, meaning no skill roll penalties but leaving them open to danger. Up to you if something happens or they get lucky and the night is uneventful!
