Despite having found a home in the Kingdom of Duskorna, Huckleberry couldn't help but find his heart still longing for adventure. Surely they wouldn't miss him for a week or two while he went out exploring? He told himself, only hesitating momentarily when he had set out across the lands. Besides, this would be a good opportunity to test his resolve and maybe even bring back some sort of trophy to show off when he came back. He had noticed the creatures of Duskorna all seemed to have little treasure troves - and he himself had a fascination with picking up shiny rocks and trinkets. Oh boy! were they going to be surprised when he came back with something amazing. Maybe a mammoth skull? Or a giant crystal? He hadn't quite decided yet what he should be looking for. Or where to look for it either. In his aimless wandering, he'd ended up out in the Badlands. The terrain was rocky and dry, though an abundance of drought-resistant plants grew from every crack in the dry earth. Prickly cacti grew in little patches and dry, thorny shrubs lined the hills. He had already made the mistake of brushing against one of these unfortunate plants and had to stop to pull a few thorns from his coat. This left him travelling a little slower than his normal carefree pace. Maybe that was why he heard the commotion in the distance for once before barging right into it. He paused, pricking his ears up as a familiar sound drifted around the winding passages of stone canyons. It was the deep lowing of cows! COWS! It had been so long since he'd seen a herd of cows. Excitedly, he took off toward the sounds and came skittering around a corner to see a clearing ahead where the canyon opened up to a landscape of shrubland and hills. There was a gathering of creatures there and scattered around them cows were being herded this way and that. His tail wagged instinctively. Maybe it was his family? The thought crossed his mind quickly and he moved down the hill toward the gathering without caution. His eyes darted around looking for familiar faces, but he didn't seem to see anyone he knew yet. He hadn't even considered this group of strangers might not appreciate a complete outsider running up to them so suddenly. --- Speech. |
Badlands
A large expanse of dry terrain. Tall rock formations have eroded away into hills, cliffs, and canyons. The terrain is difficult to traverse for the weak or inexperienced. Dry desert grasses, shrubs, and cactus grow here. At night the land comes alive with creatures, from snakes to antelope.
