Midnight Mountains
A small mountain range known for its black colored rocks and mineral ore deposits. Many mining caves have been dug through the mountain but not all of these are safe. Bears and mountain lions guard the hills and many unsafe tunnels collapse without warning.

Since his offering to Tsillah, Eon felt his clairvoyance open up. Thoughts not his own played in his brain, giving him visions and messages to decipher. It was all too much.  He appreciated this sixth sense, but managing it was becoming harder each day, and he was beginning to wish he could turn it off.  Especially at night, when he tried to sleep.

Typically, Eon was a heavy sleeper, able to sleep without any issues., yet lately, he had found himself tossing and turning, unable to turn off his brain. It felt like he was being watched, though there were no signs of anyone there, not physically. When he finally entered the land of dreams, he found himself in a strange place he had never been to before. Hills, canyons, sharp stones, and cacti surrounded him. It didn’t look like the terrain was very easy to traverse on paws, but when he went to spread his wings - he came to a dreadful realization. The large feathered appendages that grew from his spine were gone. There were no signs of injury; they seemed to have vanished.

He had relied so heavily on his wings. They were a significant source of his pride, his joy. As a small Creature, he relied on them and the agility they provided him. Without them, he was nothing. He was about to release a blood-curdling scream when an icy wind blew, and he swore he heard it whisper in his ear. “You gave your pride to me, remember?”

After a moment of panting, he was able to collect himself.  He wasn’t sure what would happen next but was prepared to stand firm. The wind blew again, beckoning him forward, creating a swirling mass of sand and dust. He couldn’t fly, but he still had his paws, and that was all he needed to continue forward. The terrain was challenging to traverse, and he’d nearly stumble a few times before he found his way to a clearing. The wind stopped, and the world became eerily silent. Eon would stop, cautiously observing his surroundings.

In the distance, he saw the dust form a shadowy figure. He approached it cautiously, eventually making out the shape of a hyena. Fear struck the small canid.  Looking into its gaze, he knew who this was, but he was unsure why she had brought him here or why.

Without hesitation, the hyena lunged in his direction. Eon instinctively dodged and jumped to the side, her claws barely scraping his coat.  He knew he would stand no chance of winning against the much larger hyena with brute strength, and now, he didn’t have his wings to get him off the ground. He had to find another way to fight... but how?

The hyena didn’t give him time to think it through as she lunged at him a second time. Eon turned tail and ran. He had to think and act quickly. Up ahead, the terrain became harder to navigate - and he slowed his pace to ensure he didn't slip. He regretted leaving the clearing as the hyena nearly grabbed one of his tails. Wait - perhaps he could use the terrain to his advantage somehow?

Eon would take in his surroundings as best he could. There had to be someplace he could lose his pursuer, but where? There, up ahead. Eon focused on the tiny crack in the side of the canyon. He could feel the breath of the hyena on his heels as he dove through the small opening, out of reach of her snapping jaws. For a moment, he was able to catch his breath.

Peering further into the crevices, he could see the area opened up into a tunnel-like system. Having nowhere else to turn, the small canid followed into the darkness.  He was eventually led to a large boulder. At the top, he could see the light peering in - and exit! However, getting up that high without his wings would prove another challenge. With a deep breath, Eon would leap, attempting to dig his claws into the rock, only to slide back down. He had no other options, so he tried again and again.  On the fifth try, he had managed to pull himself up to the top. Cautiously, he’d exit the caves.

He now found himself on a ledge overlooking the strange wasteland. He could see the hyena below. Luckily for him, the wind was blowing towards him. Taking the opportunity while it lasted, Eon lept down, landing on the hyena and pinning her to the ground. She responded with nothing but a nod before once again turning to dust.

The wind began to blow once more. “You’ve proven yourself now, but heed this lesson. If you rely on one thing too heavily, you’ll be helpless if  it is taken away.”  Eon sighed in relief. He could feel his wings once again on his back. He had passed this test, but it was possible there would be more in the future, so he had to remain prepared.

“My gift to you is a quiet mind. Use it to find your way out of challenging situations. You can still access the other side, but now you have something to channel and control that power.”

The bones of a bird's wing were on the ground before him. However, as we went to pick it up, he was jolted awake. It was all a dream… no, it was more than a dream. He had to go and find the place he had been shown and this bird's wing immediately. Without hesitation, Eon would exit his den, spreading his wings and taking off into the night.
