The tinge of cold in the air, twilight apon Shifty as he ventured on south for the coming winter. He didnt like the cold didnt have the coat for it. In search of warmer climates he found himself in a canyon area, very dry, cept for the small river that seemed to winding thru the center of canyon eating away at the high rock walls. Little did he know that river wouldnt be only thing eating tonight. Resting from his journey on the rivers edge lapping at the water for a refreshing drink.
A loud bellowing screech echoed off the walls. No way to pin point what direction it came from. Nor did he recognize what kind of beast it was. For all he knew it could be some crazy hybrid beast like sage and wroth were a couple weeks ago. How bad could it be he wanted more friends. "Heyo" He echoed off the walls. It amused him how well it kept going and going down the canyon he couldnt help but snicker and laugh which also bounced back. He loved it here it was going to be so much fun here for the winter. Or so he thought.
The canyon, for all of its splendor, was the perfect hiding place. Since her encounter in the oasis, Braith had only left it to sneak to the Badlands for prickly pears. The serpent-tailed giant haunted her dreams still and no matter how much she tried to move past her fears, even just the sight of the oasis in the distance sent shivers down her spine. Even on a good day, brave wasn’t a good in her vocabulary. But now? Finding survival in the most curious of hiding places was the best life she could imagine.
There was something strange about this night, though. Usually, the canyon was mostly the same day to day. The rocks fell occasionally, the rare nomad traveling through, sometimes even a small critter seeking shelter that could become a special meal. But the echo of screeching bouncing through the canyon was new and to say it put her on edge was an understatement. Braith used the darkness to her advantage to sneak toward the river for what would likely be her one drink of the night before finding some food and finding a different hiding spot for the coming day.
As she cautiously took her drink, a new voice echoed through the canyon. It wasn’t a shriek, but a voice. She yelped in surprise and looked up and around with wide eyes. It didn’t sound like the giant from the oasis, at least. But that didn’t mean they weren’t a threat. Something about the playful tone got the better of her in this instance. "H-hello?" she called back, her voice quiet yet loud enough to echo to those who were relatively nearby. Braith may have looked anxious and frozen where she stood, but she was ready to bolt and hide at any moment.
Whilest having fun chirping up the canyon, it reminded him of the playful times with his brothers and sister. When the walls chirped back at Neuro he remembered when they would wrestle, my how he missed them they would love this place. In between his breaths, he heard the faintest 'Hello' echo thru the snickers. Half startled, his hair stood up on end, paws in a little wider stance ready for anything. His ears were scaning to hear any other noise. A minute passed what seemed like and eternity, all he could hear was the crickets one on either side of the river. "It must've been the wind". He said to himself. "I better find a place to rest for the night". It was dark now the sun way past the horizon. Probably best to keep quiet from now on he thought as he began looking for an alcove to make camp and a fire, it was going to be a cold one.
After a brief time of looking he found a decent spot to hunker down. Thank goodness for Sage and the others during the festival, they had taught him how to use some basic fire tools. Though he wasnt anywhere near an expert he got one going. That should keep me warm for tonight he thought. Another screeching bellow rang thru, definitely much closer, it was coming from down river. "What is that"? He said as he laid down next to his small camp fire.
She waited in nervous silence for a response. The lack of response was disconcerting, but so were most things. Had she imagined it? Was there another around trying to play a prank on her? Was there a threat? There was no way in knowing in the silence. At least, it was silent until another screech echoed through the canyon.
Braith yelped and jumped at the sound and finally started to move. She crept as quietly as she could until she found herself near the closest wall of rocks. Surely she could find some sort of clump of larger rocks to hide in for the night… right? At least, that’s what she hoped.
As quietly as she could, the small wolf jumped up onto a mid-size stone, then another, and another as she climbed roughly ten feet above the ground and took a few glances around and froze with widened eyes
at the sight of light a short distance away. There was another nearby. But it didn’t seem like the screeching noise was coming from that direction… So where was it coming from?
There was no way Braith could sleep with her thoughts sprinting through her mind, not with the knowledge that there was another nearby… and possibly more. What she didn’t pick up, however, was the looming shadows that started to move closer to the light in the distance… she didn’t even notice the movement on some of the side of the canyon in the distance above her while her eyes remained glued on the light.
At least, she didn’t notice them until some pebbles and smaller stones were kicked off the side of the wall. Almost immediately, Braith’s gaze shot up towards the sound. What she saw (even if it wasn’t completely clear due to her perspective and the darkness) made her yelp loudly in fear as she scrambled backwards.
Walk "Speak"Magic
ooc:
special:
success - Braith manages to safely get off of the rocks she had climbed to start running towards the light with a bit of a head start
fail - Braith scrambles backwards and completely falls off of the rocks,
causing her to cry out in pain and does not have a head start to run away
either way, Braith causes a noisy commotion in the darkness. Have fun!
No family, no attachments, no possessions, only one thing matters Eating. A pack of coyotes turned zombies moved up the canyon ravine towards the noises. Every Few hundered yards they would screech, it was an involentary impulse they couldnt control. Moving around a bend in with the river they noticed a light source gleaming in the night. An un earthly beconing rose in them quickening their pace towards the fire.
Along the way they stubbled across a small wolf ahead of the pack "Ggrmmm Raaa" inlegibly they groaned, drool and blood dripping from their mouths as they laid eyes on the food. Moving quickly now eyes on the prize the lead zombie goes for a swing with her paw to strike the small creature.
Success- zombie coyote shoves Braith
Fail- swings and misses Braith throwing the lead zombie off balance and tripping the next two coyotes.
Shifty was settling down for the night, probably did one to many circles to get comfortable he started to get dizzy. Even though shifty didnt like fire at all it was necessary to stay warm till he got a decent spot to actual set up shop. He started to drift off staring into the flames, something about it when under control had a soothing aura to it.
Shifty jolted awake when he heard the commotion coming down the incline it was a interesting sight to behold. A smaller canine running straight for his alcove. Directly behind her was a group of nasty looking coyotes. "Quick over here". He didnt know what he was getting into but he had to help the little canine. "What are those things?"
