A thermal hot spring surrounded by miles of open tundra and taiga. Located on a mostly barren island, the hot springs are known for their healing and magical waters. Warm geysers shoot out from cracks in the ice and rocky pools of warm water can be found here.
Well, Ida was glad she hadn't been the one to wake up in the hot spring. She gave a lazy shake of her pelt to throw off the last of any clinging snow, heavy paws churning apart the thin cover blanketing the taiga's soil as she plodded ahead. From the corner of her eye she spotted the smaller wolf following, and she flicked an ear at her pleasantries. It took several moments to decide whether or not she'd respond, but hell- Maureen was the only other wolf out here, so she might as well try to be sociable. Besides, wherever she was now, it would be better to have at least some allies.
"Back atchuh," she grunted, turning her head back to give a lazy nod. She lowered her nose and sniffed at the earth as Maureen spoke again, angling her ears to half-listen as she parsed through the scents of wet earth and pine as they walked. She mentioned something called a city, and Ida raised a brow.
"--'hell's a city?" she paused her sniffing to ask. She mentioned studying as well, but eh, she could ask about that later. Now that she had her nose in the snow and she thought about that elk again (if she'd never tried for a piece of that thing, she'd never be in this mess to begin with...), a familiar excitement was pulsing through her veins. Meat was not something Ida ate regularly, but it was delicious, and something that she'd never pass the opportunity to partake in. Those blunted fangs of hers could grind boulders to gravel and pebbles to dust, but the crunch of bone and flesh- now that was a taste she couldn't tire of. She and that blue-winged brute back home.
Ida nearly missed Maureen's question between her sniffing and the thoughts of her predicament. She rolled her shoulders in a half-hearted shrug, lifting her head again to leer curiously around the foreign landscape before answering.
"Quarry n' grassland. Few forests, nuthin' like this,"the wolf fluffed her shaggy pelt against the cold wind, though that at least wasn't a bad sensation. It was cooler here in a way that only winter was back where she was from, and winter was a season that she'd thrived in. Were the seasons different here, or was this strange forest always like this? Maureen had mentioned they came here through sleeping; could they be in some sort of dream? Couldn't be heaven, with the way Ida acted. She chuckled at the thought.
Suddenly she paused, flaring her nostrils again and snuffling heavily against the ground.
"Think I got somethin'," she said lowly, cresting a small hill and peering down into its shallow gulley.

What was a city? The thought that only she knew what a city was baffeled Maureen. "it's like a community that is better put together with rules and such? i find them more comforting than these wild..lands." She admits following along behind Ida.
Being in the wild was not in her favors. So she sticks close to Ida in hopes of some protection from anything that could have been lurking around them.
It seemes that where ever this Ida was from it wasn't much too diffrent that here. "Who knows maybe we can find a city here and I can show you the--" but Ida fell silent saying that she had found something, so Maureen follows her lead.
Sniffing the air sue finds moose dung and gags at the smell. "That's ripe" she gorans, wishing she had not of taken such a big wiff."by all means..lead the way" marureen wagged her paw in the general direction the smell came and tried not to puke; ever clearly a city dweller through and through.
She knows nothing of the hardships like this in life.

Sorry its a phone post. I should be out of the hospital in a day or two x.x
Her old sniffer hadn't failed her yet, and Ida let out a pleased chuff at the sight of the fresh droppings. Her lips peeled back to show a grin of all blunted fangs, and her chest rumbled with low laughter as Maureen recoiled from their find. The heavy dog kicked off and slid down into the gulley, churning up soil and snow behind her as she came to a sloppy stop just past the droppings.
"Ripe indeed," Ida said, looking up and catching hoofprints leading further through the shallow ravine. They were light, likely topped off by a recent dusting of snow, but the scent of moose hung just faint enough to confirm what she already knew. They only needed to keep following the trail, and it wouldn't be a very long one. Anticipation buzzed beneath her shaggy pelt, but she resisted the urge to take off running through the trees as she turned to look back at Maureen.
"What, y'never seen shit before?" she chuckled sharply. The great dog gave a jerk of her chin, beckoning the smaller wolf to follow before stepping past the dung and podding after the hoofprints. Snow clumped to her broad paws as she walked, and as she kicked off a bit of slush, Ida's thoughts wandered back to Maureen's explanation of a city to entertain herself; their previous discovery had initially interrupted that strain of conversation, but Ida was curious. She quirked a brow, beady eyes momentarily parting from the trail to look back at her glowing companion.
"So, 'city's like uh pack? Ah've been inna few of those," been kicked out would be the more accurate description, but that was besides the point. Hot breath puffed from her nostrils, mild amusement flashing across her gaze at the untold memories as she continued. "Long as there're wolves, there're packs."

Oh no! I hope you're feeling alright. Get better soon!
The truth was, Maureen was pampered and lived in her own little lavish mind. Getting dirty? Yuck? Following moose poop, double ew. The scent was horrible. "That stuff smells terrible!" She remarks, leabing away from the smell that Ida had brought her closer to. "I know everyone has to poop," he sneers trying to lean away now. "But it sure smells horrible." There was almost a hiss in her voice, looking at the grumpy woman before her. "Does it always lead to food- those..droppings?" Maureen gives Ida a quick side-eye. Her own paws creating melted pathways in the springs as she passes through.
"So, 'city's like uh pack? Ah've been inna few of those," Maureen nodded to Ida. "Sort of they are a lot more cival-" her words ended abruptly because something hops from the bushes.

"Fair," Ida snorted, continuing on with a testing click of her mandibles. Her ear flicked at the smaller wolf's next question, and her gaze lit with mild surprise as she turned over her shoulder to stare curiously at her. She opened her jaws to retort, perhaps with further taunting, but it seemed that Maureen really didn't know; what kind of pack was she from if they hadn't taught her that?
"Depends on th' smell," she finally answered, biting back her usual snark. "N' what it looks like. 'could be food or uh bear or somethin'. Yuh usually get taught what," she looked forward again as she plodded on, veering sharply away from a plume of steam which trickled through the trees. Her pelt prickled uncomfortably at the sight of another pool of boiling spring water, and she gave the alien sight a wide berth as she trailed after the strengthening moose-scent. "They teach yuh 'bout this in th' city?" Ida grunted, lengthening her strides and hoping the other female didn't notice her anxiety around the bubbling water.
Maureen had just begun further explaining what a city was when the sparse undergrowth rustled; before Ida could tear her nose away from the scent trail, something white and furry shot out in front of the two wolves and sent the huge dame flinching backwards with a snarl. She lifted a paw instinctually in preparation to slam down and crush whatever the hell had charged past them, but paused when the little creature skidded to a halt several paces away and sniffled at the cold air. It was a hare--and once its glossy eyes locked onto the two predators standing beside it, it jumped and skittered up the gulley and vanished with a spray of snow.
Ida considered tearing after it, but a hare would barely be a snack when split between two large, hungry wolves. "Fuckin' hell," she groused, forcing her fur flat and ears heating with embarrassment at how hard the little creature had made her jump. She lowered her paw and glared upwards after its trail before continuing on, lightly rattling her elytra in indignation. At least its presence proved that there was enough vegetation here to support more than just one moose. They wouldn't starve here; or at least, Maureen probably wouldn't. Ida hadn't spotted any particularly large rock deposits yet, but she could probably make do on meat alone until then. It wasn't as if she weren't a fan of it.
After a while of walking, the shallow gully finally came to an end and the trail began to slope upwards again. Ida lowered herself into a crouch as she slowly picked herself up the snowy bank, ears alert and beady eyes narrowed as her nostrils flared and took in the strengthening, earthy scent of moose. Her mouth watered as she leered over the horizon, hoping to stay as silent as possible as she looked for their prize.

Maureen nods, listening to the mandible carrying woman. She would take any information she could get on hunts. So it depended on the smell and what it resmebled? Maureen tucks the information back for later. They didn't teach a lot of that in the city she used to live in. "where I come from in the city they like to teach language, writing, reading- smart things I suppose, but ive never picked up a hunting class myself- never saw the reason until now.." she laughs a little nervously, feeling somewhat embarrassed to admit such a thing. Back then everything was at her pawtip, she could purchase it but now? Not so much!
And then she pauses, getting silent just as Ida has. She follows her lead. Something was rustling in the bushes and Maureen can only watch as a hare jumps from the bushes. When Ida took off so did she, Maureen cuts to the other side trying to steer the hare towards Ida so that she could catch the thing! But the hare had gotten away.
Maureen pauses where shes at, catching her breath as she follows along beside the wolf, panting. After walking for awhile Maureen hesitantly sniffs at the ground trying to pick up the scent. Then she sniffs again as the wind rolls.. Maybe..just maybe she would pick up the scent again- or something that could feed their bellies for the night.
