Muddy River
A wide ravine where a shallow, gentle river flows. Years of drought and silt deposits have built this area into a fertile delta. The river remains low and dry most of the year, staining its waters brown and creating muddy shores.

Larkspur flicked their ear in appreciative acknowledgement, tilting their head slightly to get a better angle on their meal. They picked at the skin a little, peeling a bit more out of the way before continuing to consume the much softer, more pliable flesh. It was good to know another creature decent enough with other plants and salves - maybe he would even be able to find and acquire plants Larkspur themself had never seen before?

"I think myself fairly skilled with creating concoctions as well, if you can tell me the ingredients I need, I can replicate it," Larkspur agreed, if this 'tincture' was any good at lessening the pressures of preening and molting on an overall level, they were willing to try it. Taking another bite from the carcass, Larkspur found themself sorely missing the leather satchel they used to have. They couldn't afford to eat too much - stomach cramps mid-flight weren't just incredibly inconvenient but also dangerous, liable to spook them into landing early in a dangerous or claimed territory - but it also felt incredibly wasteful to leave all of this meat so close to the border, alerting the nearby pack that lone hunters had brought something down near their land. This would be a good time to tear the larger pieces from the carcass, storing them away and burying the scraps.

They pawed the ground with mild frustration - they really should have taken the time to create one, even if it was rough and amateurish in appearance.

"I think that's all I can eat without upsetting my stomach," the wolf sighed a bit to themself. "What should we do with it?"

They glanced up towards the setting sun, feeling their wings itching with the desire to fly but they did have a vampire to think about now. Their tail swishes before they sighed to themself - on paw it was. So long as they stayed outside of the heavy treeline covered in scent-marks, they would probably follow the river beneath the canopy of the trees to keep the giant from being directly exposed long enough for the sun to finish its descent below the horizon. Once it had vanished and the moon took control, they could soar out and cover the last bit of ground with minimal trouble.

"I'll keep an eye out for good-sized mice and snakes then," Larkspur agreed, making a mental note. They still weren't sure how to hunt down a prospective snake companion but hopefully, it wouldn't be too dangerous. They only wanted a strangler-snake after all, not one that would poison them with a singular bite. "Come on, we can walk until the sun's gone down."

They started to move on, chuckling a little themself at the laughter released by the bat-like creature. Good, this journey wouldn't be fun for anyone if found himself caught in grief and Larkspur didn't know him well. She wouldn't know where to even start with attempting to console him.

"Ah, no. She said she 'poofed' after drinking from it - stumbled across me trying to preen my wings with no water, did a trick with her sword and decided to be my escort," the chocolate furred wolf clarified.

I figure that Bal could either agree or protest the idea of waiting longer to meet Reed through walking instead of flying right away if you want

Rolling an Perception Check. There's a decent sized constrictor/tree snake in the area that was dislodged by a predator
Success - Larkspur hears the crash as the snake falls and catches the poor thing willingly
Failure - Larkspur is completely caught off guard and is suddenly smacked by a random snake

Lucky for him being next to the river was cool, and the hyena was able to use his thick wings to mostly keep the last of the heated rays off of his dark coat."you can try to grow plants later? I have a satchel!" He also notied that Lark didn't have one. "Maybe I can save this deer skin in me other satchel side and we can tan it!"

Balthazar let his eyes move to Larkspur and then to the food. She had her fill same as him and was now full.

She was right, it would be a terrible waste. The hyena sauntered over digging his own claws into the soil to try to cover their patch, but the earth wss had and strenuous and rough. Panting, he decided "well, if you be full one side of mi' satchel can hold meat. We can make a jerky for you and Reed!"

Balthazar was busy getting meet scraps and making fine strips to put into the right side of his leather satchel. His ear flickered when he heard the 'smacking' sound. The hyena turns his head and wanders over to Larksup with a snicker. "I think you found a friend Lark" his tail rolled left and right in thought, then to the ground . "he probably wants something to eat." The sun was almost all the way down now and Balthazar could step

Larkspur nodded their agreement, "That would be nice. If you could make me another satchel, that would be nice. My old one was lost to the river."

And dear gods are they glad they hadn't brought the special pin their mother had gifted them before they ventured out. It hurt that it was unlikely they would never see it again (but not impossible, that was something they were clinging to about it) but it made them feel more secure to know it hadn't been washed away, swallowed by whatever angry river gods had been provoked.

Larkspur's ear twitched a little, trying to decipher the new style of speech for a moment before Reed's comment about being pirates clicked in their head. Ohhhh, was the voice part of the performance then? Well that was fine, there's no reason for them to be strange about someone else's way of talking.

"Jerky will be nice," they agreed easily, ears twitching towards the rustling canopy above. "Hopefully that'll also stop any huge predators from being drawn to the area-"

Larkspur stared, a little dumbfounded by the newfound creature trying to slither around, squirming free from their mouth. The powerfully muscled creature thrashed a bit more firmly, as if it was demanding to be put down. Still a little confused, she placed the large creature in the leaf litter, watching it proceed to coil back up at her paws, familiar reddish-brown scales with darker clouded-markings painted down its back with little pits among its lips. The large wolf tilted their head curiously when it didn't try to slither away, didn't attempt to leave despite being placed on the ground - moreover, they weren't sure this was even a tree snake. This appeared to a rock snake of some sort, the kind they were used to finding in the leaf-litter, poking around the ground after small rodents.

"...especially after a fall like that," Larkspur agreed, eyes drawn away from the little creature. They lowered their nose to the ground, performing a few precursory sniffs for any nearby burrows.

With the meat in one satchel and the skin in the other Blathy completely abandons their kill. At some point though he thinks he would come back and get them bones for decore and armor!

In the meanwhile he is a tail length away from Larkspur and her new rock Python friend.the it had scales that blended quite well it Larks- even the spots. "Well," he purrs soft and soothing, "the good news is, he hasn't ran off yet," Balthazar smiles, glancing up at Larkspur where he wiggles his head; offering a small portion of meat from his saddle bag.

Most of not all snakes like meat- it would surprise him otherwise. The hyena took a slow step back where he sits and watches. These two would need to say hello to one another. Clearly the snake was curious. "Good and soft words 'elp lots." He offers, trying bot to interrupt or be too loud at this time.

"I'm surprised it didn't take off." Larkspur mused, looking at the coiled creature. At least it hadn't been a venomous one they supposed - if it had fallen from the trees as a venomous creature, crashing into them, it could've lashed out in shock and they had no anti-venom on paw for once. They stretched their neck out, half intending to eat the piece of meat being offered to them and half of a mind to offering it to the snake. It dripped tantalizingly in their mouth, the wolf reminding themself that they'd already eaten and eating more would only hurt their stomach and offered the dripping sheet to the creature.

They watched the muscular snake raising up, flicking its thin, forked tongue at the slab a few times. It tilted its head back and forth a couple of time, seemingly looking the flesh up and down thoughtfully. They set the dripping piece down carefully, not wanting to startle the surprisingly bold snake with any sudden movements.

"It's alright," the wolf murmured. What exactly do you say to a snake? They kind of wished they could've found an actual mouse or a squirrel or something given the stripped flesh is likely not what they want to eat.

Charisma I think.
Success - the snake is convinced by Larkspur's gentle voice and decides to eat the food right where it is.
Failure - the snake hisses a little and coils up further, put off by the sudden movement and Larkspur takes the initiative to take a step back

The snake seems unsure of Larkspur at first. Balthazar can only watch on with a hopeful heart as the Python flickered its tongue over the offered meat.

Would they take it? Balthazar hadn't noticed it, but until the snake took the morsel, he had held his breathing. Good he likes the meat and Larkspur's sweet talking! A toothy grin rolled across the scaled hyena's lips as the snake moved closer- probably looking for more meat.

Very calmly Balthazar walks around the pair and slides the sadddle back next to Larkspur. "Give em' a few mir' he'll take to ya fir it," he remarks softly as he scoots away a few more inches to give them space.

Seeing the pair made him happy. If things went right they would be buddies for life. Having a companion really brought the softer sides out of you- just like watching Larkspur- but he would never say anything
