Somewhere in the wind and snow, he could hear the distinct "cronch" of snow from footsteps as the girl followed him out into the wind. "You're a long way from the ocean," he said, his voice loud as the wind tried to take his voice away. It stung and bit at his face. He squinted, looking back at her when suddenly she exclaimed that he shouldn't be alarmed. Well. That definitely alarmed him. His straightened, his ears flicking forward for a moment - though only for a second, as he immediately regretted doing that when the wind immediately caught in his ears and stung them with cold snow. His ears immediately flipped back against his skull as he watched a gold light glow out from something she had retrieved from somewhere in her gear. He leaned in with curiosity.

It was a map! The marks were smudged and most of it he honestly couldn't read, but there to the northeast, there seemed to be some markings that looked like a rock formation. A cave? A ravine maybe? "What about there?" He lifted his paw and pointed with his claw to indicate the spot. Maybe if we get to the rocks, we can find something a little more out of the wind." He hardly paused before turning in that direction. "Come on, lets go. He trudged along as the snow began to grow deeper still and the wind was picking up. They needed to get out of this wind or they wouldn't be able to see which direction they were going at all.

The temperature of the air was dropping quicker with ever moment, sapping the strength out of Caedwyn's body. He pressed on with determination but he could quickly feel himself growing tired. There was a hill ahead with a few trees, though not enough to provide shelter. Maybe from up there they could see where the ravine was? He climbed the hill, pausing at the top. His breaths came in loud gasps as little puffs of breath steamed in the air. His eyes quickly scanned down the valley below. "Look.... (*puff puff*) ... over ... there," he said out of breath. It was a ways off yet, but in the distance he could see some rocky hills on the horizon.

"We can't stop now, the storm is still getting worse," He had barely gotten the words out of his mouth as he turned back to check that the girl was still close-by. In his distraction, his foot slipped on the steep slope and the slick snow gave way under him. With his strength already waning, his tumbled haphazardly to the bottom before sliding out across a thick sheet of ice that seemed oddly smooth under the snow.

Smooth ice... a wide expanse... Caedwyn had slid out onto a frozen river. Was the ice thick enough to support his weight?

---

Constitution Roll:
Fail: The snowstorm has sapped his strength. When he falls, he can't regain his footing and smacks his head on the way down, knocking him unconscious.

"Yeah, ok" Reed shouted over the winds. After only moments of reviewing the map, the other wolf was able to pick out a location and find his sense of direction to lead them on. Again, Reed found herself thankful the he was such a take-charge wolf. He started forward, breaking the snow for the pair of them. Reed quickly rolled the parchment back up, stuck it back in it's case, then pressed forward, following the path Caedwyn carved.

As the pair traveled, the storm worsened. Soon the winds were whipping so viciously, Reed had to duck her head to hide it from the onslaught of snow against her face. Even with her thick pelt, it stung as the ice pelted her. She hoped desperately that this wolf knew where they were going. At this point she was thoroughly lost and shivering. She was a long way from the ocean. He'd been right. Too far away from the ocean. The ocean. Mar. She thought about the strength of the ocean, how despite the worst of storms, it would endure and settle into a calm once more. This storm would do the same. They just had to survive the rough waves.

The other wolf called out to her up ahead. She'd fallen behind at some point, it seemed. Her legs were coated with snow and heavy. The ice underneath cut viciously at her skin and paws. She couldn't feel the cut, not with the numbness from the cold, but behind her with every step were spots of blood from her pads. At his calling, Reed pressed forward to cover the distance, panting and shivering as she lifted her head to try and find what he saw. She squinted with her one eye and thought she saw an outline of a ravine of some sort.

Movement caught her attention and Reed looked sideways in time to see the male slipping down the ledge and plummeting below. Then, just like that, he was out of her sight, taken by the white-out conditions before her very eyes. Reed started to yell after him, then suddenly realized that she didn't even know his name to call. "Awe, for the love of!" she exclaimed before carelessly leaping down after the wolf.

What Reed hadn't realized is how sheer of a drop-off it was. She slid part of the way down, but lost her footing and tumbled the remainder of the way. Once she reached the bottom, she took a moment to try and regain herself and her strength. Her body ached and hurt, and she worried if she'd broken something on the way down. "Hey!" Reed called out into the winds as she carefully regained her footing. Each step was careful, for beneath the layer of snow was ice. She could feel its sharpness against her aching, wounded paws. "HHHEEYYYYYY!!" she bellowed at the top of her lungs. The only response she got was the screaming winds as they protested her presence.

If he wasn't responding, then she'd have to try and find him. Her eyes turned to the trail from where she'd slid down the cliff. Already it was being blown away by the winds. If she had any hope of finding him, she needed to work quickly. Her nose twitched as she scented the winds and sighed. No trail. No scent. No vision. Her only hope of getting out of here was finding the stranger. She'd already gotten lost after slipping down the bank. "Get it together, Reed" she tried to give herself a pep talk. "You can do this. Just use your eyes and look around." She stepped forward, trying her best to peer through the winds and snow, each step carefully placed.

Dex Roll: Determines Reed's injuries as she slips down the cliff
Success: sustains minimal injuries and is just bruised and banged up
Failure: sustains a broken rib on the way down

Perception Roll: Determines if Reed finds Caedwyn

She searched and searched, pausing from time to time to listen and look for any movement. She listened for a groan, or a yell, or the crunching of snow or ice. She listened, but it wasn't what she heard that lead her to the stranger. She placed her front paw forward and felt the bitter sting of freezing water cover her wounded pads. She looked downwards as she yanked her paw back only to see a break in the ice. Beneath the break was a figure dark brown and red. "OH NO!" she suddenly exclaimed as she realized that he was trapped beneath the ice. Fear and panic rushed through Reed and she froze. Her heart thumped in her ears as a memory flooded back into her mind.

As she came to, she tried to take a breath of air. She inhaled as she opened her eyes only to feel the sensation of water filling her lungs. Desperately she gasped, reaching for her throat as she fought for air, her eyes rolling wildly as she looked and tried to find the surface. A ship. Vast beds of coral. Large schools of fish. The ocean's rays dancing across the surface above, beckoning her forward. She wanted to so desperately kick and climb to the surface. She tried. Just when she thought she'd fall into darkness, air came to her lungs

The memory had her shivering more than the bitter colds of the blizzard. Move her mind screamed, and yet she remained frozen in place, the ice cracking beneath her paws. Reed was a heavy wolf, and her weight wasn't helping the situation. A particularly strong gust of wind knocked Reed off balance and out of her frozen state of fear. She heard more ice cracking beneath her paws and stepped backwards, away from the stranger. "I can't leave him." she growled as she gritted her teeth. She summoned her courage from within and used her prior memory to fuel her towards a solution. A bubble of air started to form in the blizzard winds. Once formed, Reed grunted and flung her magic downwards above the stranger. Hopefully, if her aim was good, her bubble would suck Caedwyn up out of the water and move him onto the ice beside here where it was a bit more thick.

Dexterity Roll: Roll to see if she accurately is able to push the bubble down onto Caedwyn to suck him back out
Success: Nails it. Caedwyn gets sucked up into a bubble and plopped onto the ice after it 'bursts'
Failure: Misses. Bubbles breaks the ice and goes into the water, but misses Caedwyn. It comes up and bursts

This was why Caedwyn hated the cold. Situations like this didn't happen in summer. There wasn't cold wind and blizzards biting at ones face in June, or slippery cliffs of snowdrifts in July, or frozen rivers in August. Nope. All that annoying cold could just fuck right off. At least, that what Caedwyn would have been thinking if he'd been conscious. He'd knocked his head on a rock on the way down the hill and slid right out onto a thin patch in the ice - which gave way as soon as his weight pressed on it. The water was cold and dark, like deaths embrace wrapping all around him. He didn't even realize how much time had passed between him slipping and Reed pulling him out again with her magic. The cold air whipped against his wet coat like stinging knives. Instinctually, he began to cough and sputter rather violently, coughing up the water that had entered his airways. He rolled over onto his belly, his head pounding as he tried to get his bearings. His eyes glanced back to the hold in the ice as slowly the realization of what had happened came to him. His body began to tremble uncontrollably with the cold as he seeped through him, but he managed to swing his head around again and he found the outline of the female he'd been travelling with.

His jaw shook, trembling with his shivers as he tried to talk - his voice stuttering from the cold. "D-D-Did y-you sssssave m-me?" he stammered. Even as he spoke, he tried to push up to get onto his paws. His feet slipped on the slick ice and water that coated the surface, making it a struggle to stand. He fell at first, but then tried again and somehow, he managed to stand finally. Even his breath felt cold and the little puff of steam at his nose was barely there. He knew the truth of the situation, though he dared not speak it. They needed to find shelter immediately. If they didn't, he would probably die to the cold.

"Do you see the cave anymore?" he said, managing to form his words a little better - though he was still shivering loudly. "I think it was ... over... there?" He motioned toward the other side of the river, though he wasn't completely sure anymore. That fall had caused him to loose his direction and he wasn't even sure which direction they had come from.
