The river was like a labyrinth; every route he took seemed to loop back into itself, twisting and winding itself into a knot where the currents collided and mussed his whiskers with contradicting directions. Delta was a creature of the sea--he felt the pull of the tide deep beneath his bones and could follow the compass in his head wherever water flowed, but here?
He was lost.
The little cat poked his brow above the river's surface and leered into the thick mist, catching sight of nothing more than a hazy outline of the bank and the strange, distant shadows cast by the wandering pillars stretched high above the land. They were of no help to him. Each time he surfaced to try and find his bearings he swore the monoliths had shifted, wandering aimlessly through the fog just as he did. He shuddered as a cold drop of rain landed on his skull, the gentle sprinkling the only disruption on the water as he glided smoothly through the darkness. That was the other eerie thing about this place, besides being lost.
He was alone. For such a lush jungle, Delta expected even in the beginning of spring for there to be birds or minnows or landbeasts slinking through the undergrowth, but all was silent and still. He'd been here at least a day now, any longer and he feared he'd fall insane. That, or starve. He chewed nervously at his lip at the thought, dark eyes raking up and down the hazy banks for any clue as to what direction he was heading. Perhaps he'd have better luck if he left the water, but Tsillah, he did not want to do that. Especially when he could barely see a tail-length past his muzzle. At least in the water he could feel something before he saw it.
A dark shape slowly made itself apparent through the mist as Delta floated down the river, slowly revealing itself to be a boulder bursting from the muddy bank and overlooking the still water. That at least he hadn't seen before, but what got him more excited still was the unmistakable shape of something moving across its surface. A wolf? Too relieved to finally see another face to panic as he normally would have, Delta instead stopped his approach and called out hesitantly from a distance.
"Hello? Wolf?"
